Jacobs pursuing another term as head of NY Dems

Jay Jacobs is hoping to stay on as leader of the Democrats in the Empire State past the expiration of his term later this month, and he has the backing of Gov. Kathy Hochul.

“I will be running for election again, as state chair, and I have had that discussion with the governor,” said the Long Island Democrat.

A spokesperson for Hochul’s campaign said the governor was proud to support Jacobs’s campaign for another term. “The governor looks forward to working with the chairman to elect Democrats up and down the ticket this November and beyond,” the campaign spokesman said.

Jacobs said his current term will come to an end on Sept. 22, when the state committee is scheduled to meet “to reorganize.” His latest incarnation as party chair began in 2019, when he was tapped for a second go around by then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

“I have enjoyed working with this governor. I think that she is of a mindset to build the party and make it a robust, active Democratic Party, across the state, helping out elect candidates across the board,” Jacobs said. “That is always what I have wanted to see.”

“I’m excited about the opportunity to go another two years,” he added.
