Senate Finance Chair Liz Krueger recovering after ‘mild stroke’
State Senate Finance Committee Chair Liz Krueger suffered a stroke earlier this month and is recovering at a hospital in Manhattan.
“Senator Krueger had a mild stroke late last week, but is up and about and doing well, and a full recovery is expected,” said her spokesman.
“She is in regular contact with Senate leadership and staff while she takes time to rest and recover. She and her family are greatly appreciative of the responsiveness of the ER and Stroke Teams at Lenox Hill Hospital,” he added.
“We are all thinking of Senator Krueger as she recovers from this medical incident,” Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins said in a statement. “The well-being of our members always comes first, and we look forward to welcoming her back when she is ready.”
It’s not clear what the senator’s condition will mean for the budget process at the Capitol, but – if Tuesday’s budget extender vote is any indication – it’s possible that Senate Deputy Majority Leader Mike Gianaris could take on a larger role during floor debate.
Krueger was elected to the state senate in a special election in 2002 and has chaired the finance committee since 2019.
