Age of criminal responsibility up for debate again

March 23, 2022 – The state’s 2017 “Raise the Age” initiative is back up for debate, as part of the criminal justice changes that Gov. Kathy Hochul wants to add to the state budget. Assemblymember Latrice Walker, a Brooklyn Democrat, and Gisele Castro, executive director for the non-profit Exalt, join the show to explain why raising the age of criminal responsibility to 18 was important and push back against any effort to make it easier for juveniles to face prosecution as an adult.
