New York identifies communities disproportionately hurt by climate change
March 18, 2022 – As part of the state’s 2019 law designed to reduce New York carbon footprint, a climate justice working group was created to identify “disadvantaged communities” that would reap increased state investments in green energy. Sonal Jessel, director of policy at WE ACT for Environmental Justice and a member of the working group, discusses proposed maps of disadvantaged communities and how they might benefit.
