State looks to close gaps in food supply exposed by pandemic
Feb. 7, 2022 – Following the rush on supermarkets and increasing food insecurity that accompanied the arrival of COVID-19, state lawmakers and then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo tasked the New York State Council on Hunger and Food to find ways to improve the state’s food resiliency. Council member Julie Suarez, an associate dean with Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, discusses the challenges facing New York’s food supply and recommendations for making it more resilient.
