June 10, 2020: Lawsuit prompts NY to make absentee ballots more accessible

In an effort to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 and high traffic at polling places on Election Day, the state has mailed out absentee ballot applications to New Yorkers. A lawsuit filed against the state’s Board of Elections says the ballot program would discriminate against New Yorkers with print disabilities such as blindness or a physical disability that prevents them from independently filling out their ballot. 

We heard from Christina Asbee, Director of Assistive Tech and Voting Access Programs at Disability Rights New York, on this issue.
